My Most Inspirational Writers – Maya Angelou

I had “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” on my shelf for quite a while before I read it.  This isn’t too unusual, I have a whole shelf of books to read and it seems to be growing instead of shrinking.  But it’s not often I read a book and wish I had come to it sooner.  I didn’t know anything about it or the author before I read it and sometimes that’s the best way to approach something new – just dive in.

If ever there was an inspirational writer then Maya Angelou is she.  There is something about the way she writes, the way her lyrical prose just flows over the page, that captures you and holds you enraptured until the end.  Even the title of that particular book (I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings) is poetical and invokes certain feelings and imagery.  It is actually a poem as well, which is also wonderful.

If ever there was an inspirational person then Maya Angelou is she.  She has had a fascinating life, met amazing people and done some amazing work.  Her literature is just the tip of the iceberg, a gateway into this wonderful woman’s world.  If it seems like I’m gushing a bit, it’s because I am.  I can think of no better way to start my blogging year than by talking/gushing about someone like Maya Angelou.

If you haven’t read her then why are you still here?

Happy New Year!
